NORMAN — Author and attorney Margo Nash, whose book maintains that the murder conviction of a 15-year-old resulted in a miscarriage of justice, will speak at a public lecture set for noon on Wednesday, Feb. 28, in the Kerr Student Lounge at the University of Oklahoma College of Law.

Nash’s talk will focus on her book, The Politics of Murder: The Power and Ambition Behind “The Altar Boy Murder Case.” The book examines the evidence and challenges the conviction of Eddie O’Brien of Somerville, Massachusetts, who in 1997 was sentenced to life without parole for first-degree murder. At the time of the murder, O’Brien was 15 years old. During his trial, Nash was appointed O’Brien’s guardian ad litem, a person appointed by the court to advocate for the best interests of a child in the justice system.

“OU Law is pleased to welcome Margo Nash to share her perspective on this case and the issue of criminal justice reform,” said OU College of Law Dean Joseph Harroz Jr. “Her knowledge will offer a unique perspective for our students when considering appropriate measures to take as advocates in the area of criminal law.”

Nash is retired and resides on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. She practiced law in the Boston area from 1983 until her retirement in 2012. She continues to do pro bono work on matters involving wrongful convictions. She earned her J.D. from Suffolk University Law School.
