NORMAN – Houston attorney and University of Oklahoma College of Law alumnus John Raley will discuss his successful pro bono case that resulted in the release of an innocent man who spent 25 years in prison at noon Monday, March 5, in the Kerr Student Lounge on the first floor at the University College of Law, 300 Timberdell Road in Norman.

Michael Morton was wrongly accused of the murder of his wife. Through DNA testing of a bandanna found at the crime scene, Raley persuaded a Texas court of Morton’s innocence. His efforts also led to the arrest of the man police now believe to be the true killer. The Morton case has captured national attention, and a story is scheduled to appear on an upcoming episode of CBS’s 60 Minutes.

“John Raley’s tenacious fight to help an innocent man and to secure his release from prison represents the best values of the College of Law and its graduates,” said OU President David L. Boren.

Raley is a trial lawyer with 25 years of courtroom experience. He earned his bachelor’s and juris doctor degrees from OU, graduating from the College of Law in 1984. He also attended the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, on a Rotary Fellowship and obtained an L.L.M. in International Law in 1988. Raley is board certified in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He has been named in Texas Monthly’s Texas Super Lawyers magazine every year since its inception in 2003.
